I actually don't have anything that I want to say in particular but since I hadn't written for a while, I thought I should.
Anyhow, last week was the last for this semester. I'll have 3 months of no teaching though I have other stuff that I'd like to do. As usual, undergrad students were running around like crazy wrapping up their senior projects. So I had heap of of stuff to read and sign off.
On top of this mess, I had to mediate between my two siblings who were upset with each other on something that was rather trivial to me. The essence of the problem is that each person has a different set of priorities. What are deemed critical for one person may not be so for others. And yet, one party would like to impose their set of values on another party, claiming the right of a family member.
And the power of words amazes me. I tend to have short-term memory, so I generally don't remember what people have said to me, or what I've done, for that long. But I have known those who can imprint words that were spoken to them on their brains, causing themselves unnecessary misery over and over. Considering how effortless and fast it is to deploy, speeches are dangerous weapon for ruining a relationship.
Of course, it can go the other way too. Not that I'm a pessimist.
As I was about to sympathize with myself, I realize, hey! having a family is like this. There are good times, and there are annoying times. As Lungpor Sumedho said, this realm is supposed to be full of problems: one ceases and another arises. On and on until we die.
Finally, I'm about to be done with my first knitting project, a scarf. I thought I could finish so I went to the store to learn how to do it. But I was told that I should use up all the yarn. And since I was there, I started on my hat project. Really neat. I've got about two inches of the hat done.
